What is Yoga?Yoga means union! The Westfield Yoga Center focuses on Hatha yoga, which is the yoga of the body. Hatha yoga uses warm-ups, physical postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to bring about a wide range of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits. It brings about union or integration of body, mind and spirit. Yoga is a non-competitive activity performed in a peaceful and supportive environment. Students explore their own physical abilities in a healthy way; clearing their minds and cultivating inner stillness.

Can I do yoga even though I am not fit/thin/young/strong?Absolutely! Yoga is for everybody and every body. We all start exactly where we are: there are no pre-requisites. People of all ages, all sizes and all abilities practice yoga at the Westfield Yoga Center. So come the way you are right now! You can look over class descriptions here or learn more about our beginner courses here.

What should I wear/bring?Wear comfortable clothing that you can breathe, and move, and stretch in freely. Either long pants or shorts are fine. Garments may be either fitted or loose, whichever you prefer. Don’t worry about foot gear; we leave our shoes in the waiting room and socks may also be removed during class. Just bring an open mind and a willing spirit! Yoga mats, pillows, blankets etc. are available for your use. We have a “Yoga Mall” should you choose to purchase equipment for your personal use.
-
Can children attend classes?Child-care is not available on site. Since yoga becomes a meditation-in-motion, it is not safe to have little ones in the class. Teenagers are welcome in the regular classes. Children up to age 12 should come to either children’s yoga or family yoga classes. These classes are designed to meet their developmental needs. Series for children’s or family yoga are held at various times throughout the year.
